Making your own Christmas wreath can be so simple and fun.
And it can be a great excuse for a girls’ night in.
Grab some floral wire, leftover branches, pretty ribbon, and you’re all set!
DIY Christmas wreaths will help utilize your leftover tree branches and save you money from buying a real wreath every year.
This year my best friend had a ton of leftover branches from her Christmas tree. When she suggested making Christmas wreaths with the leftovers, I couldn’t have been more excited! After a quick trip to Michael’s craft store we went to work! This only took about two hours of our Friday night together, and most of that time was spent laughing and questioning if we were putting the wreaths together the right way.
FYI: there’s no right or wrong way.
Have fun creating your own wreath the way you want! All wreaths will look different depending on the type of Christmas tree branches you use, decorative accessories (ribbon, pinecones, bulbs, flowers, etc.), and the type of floral wreath ring you use.
Collect and Organize
Sort the branches; some will be full and lush and some will be sparse. Cut the branches down to the sizes you want. We used the longer branches for the 18inch wreath and the smaller branches for the 12inch wreath.
Begin to Assemble
Lay your first branch against the ring base. Use floral tape or wire to secure the bottom of the branch to the ring. We used floral tape to secure the bottom of each branch onto the ring, and then used floral wire to tightly secure all the branches once the wreath was assembled.
Only secure the bottom of the branch for now. By only securing the bottom of the branch you’re able to move that branch and tuck other branches under one another as needed. This helps cover the ring base and makes the wreath look fuller.
Keep adding more and more branches until you are satisfied with the way your Christmas wreath looks. Secure all branches down with the floral wire, and trim any wild branches as needed.
Now, it’s time to decorate! We chose to keep our wreaths fairly simple by only using beautiful red ribbon and creating a bow. But this is your project, get super creative!
Enjoy your DIY Christmas wreath!
